UX Design | Graphic Design | Video Editing | Content Creation

My name is Luke Kelly, and I’m a recent UL graduate from Waterford. I am currently employed by VeeLite LTD, where I am responsible for its digital marketing and web design. I have a passion for all things creative and particularly enjoy the challenge of content creation, UX design, and video editing.

Video Editing & Content Creation

mercury – kleio (official music video)

“Mercury” was the fourth single from my band Kleio. I brainstormed a slow-motion concept for the video to reflect the themes of the song, in which the narrator has stretched himself too thin trying to keep up with all his commitments. To shoot the video, we sped up the song to three times its original speed and recorded the footage in one continuous take. We used a lot of movement and color in post-production to capture the attention of viewers on social media, hoping to trigger algorithms that would help get our song to a wider audience.

four – kleio (official music video)

The music video for the song “Four” was filmed against a static and bleak backdrop, with the movement of the band members glitching in and out of frame throughout to keep the viewer engaged. The concept for the video was initially inspired by Catfish and the Bottlemen’s “Kathleen” music video and Sony’s Into the Spider-Verse franchise. The video was created with no budget and yet became the band’s most viewed video on their Instagram page.

lowlights & batteries – kleio (official music video)

The video for Lowlights and Batteries stitches together a multitude of clips from a gig the band played on the day the song was launched. With just one camera, one operator, and limited footage, I had to be creative with my angles while ensuring the video looked in sync, despite this being nearly impossible.

Album Artwork – kleio

For every song released on Spotify, artwork is required. We bulk-recorded four songs that were ready for release and have been rolled out over the past year. Because these songs were recorded in bulk, I wanted the artwork to reflect that body of work and maintain continuity. We liked the black-and-white aesthetic, as it fit well with the music we were creating and allowed us to craft interesting, minimalist artwork for our songs. The black-and-white aesthetic also became part of the band’s branding on social media.

Gig Posters – kleio

A big part of the promotion behind our songs involves gigging. Kleio played a number of gigs, including a handful of headline shows, for which I was responsible for promotion. The posters for each gig were shared on our social media pages, displayed in the venues, and put up around the cities where the gigs were held. The promotional campaigns were successful, and each of these gigs sold out.

WeAre.Travel App

We Are Travel is a project I undertook in my final year of college, in which I partnered with Limerick-based company FlyCruiseStay. We were asked by CEO Declan Hughes to design an application that would serve as the go-to travel app for vacationers around the world.

We decided that a basic travel app alone would not retain enough users, so we opted to create a community-based design that would allow users to share their experiences, communicate with fellow travelers, and post pictures of their trips. Once developed, the app would learn each user’s habits and suggest holiday destinations based on their likes and dislikes. As a bonus feature, the app would offer ‘Daily Deals,’ providing users with discounted holiday packages for a limited time.

After the project was completed, it was pitched to Booking Holdings, who held meetings with Declan Hughes regarding our work.

Safe Streets – Final Year Project UL

Safe Streets was my final year project at the University of Limerick. The idea behind Safe Streets was to create an application that would rank walking routes by safety. The app’s purpose is to aggregate information from social media, real-time GPS data, and user feedback to offer the safest route to a user’s destination.

The features I developed for this application were supported by thorough research and included tracking systems that allowed users to share their location with selected contacts, community forums for users to share past experiences or real-time news, and ‘Scheduled Beacons,’ which enable users to provide selected contacts with an estimated time of departure and completion for their journeys.

FairFuel – 2nd Year Figma Project UL

Fair Fuel was my introduction to figma, we designed an application that would be used by drivers to locate fuel at the cheapest prices in their areas. The app would track users spending, pitch options and most importantly integrate a speech interface.
